Jeunes Artistes en Europe. Les Métamorphoses (“Young Artists in Europe. The Metamorphoses”) is dedicated to the diversity of voices and the vitality of the exchanges that animate the vast European artistic territory.

For this exhibition at Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, deValence provided artistic direction and graphic design for the entire event. The exhibition poster uses the contour of Europe, cut up and rearranged in a set of frames. A similar treatment was applied to the exhibition title, set with Druk Condensed. All other text uses all-caps Knif Mono. These elements are combined in various ways in the global visual system, consisting of metro display, animated poster, videos, visitor’s guides, signage and totebags (the last two are not shown in this post).

The exhibition features works of: Gabriel Abrantes, Magnus Andersen, Evgeny Antufiev, Charlie Billingham, Kasper Bosmans, Formafantasma, Benjamin Graindorge, Miriam Haddad, Klára Hosnedlová, Nika Kutateladze, Pyotr Łakomy, Lap-See Lam, Kostas Lambridis, Kris Lemsalu, John Rouy, John Skoog, Tenant of Culture, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Jonathan Verboom, Jonathan Vinel, Raphaela Vogel.

    1. The descriptions of the artists use a third font, which I wager is the same as the “Fondation Cartier” font. 🤔

    2. Well spotted, Thiago. It seems like a version of Baskerville was used for the ‘Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain’, paired with custom lettering for the word “cartier”. On their website and in their brochures, the foundation uses Bell as their brand typeface. the serif examples shown here are a tad small, but it could be Bell.
