British collective Hipgnosis is credited for the design of 10cc’s 1980 LP Look Hear?, with illustrations by George Hardie. The big type has the unmistakable look of cracking dry transfer lettering, and Compacta was a frequently used Letraset typeface, so I’m guessing that’s how the artwork was made. The other condensed typeface, seen behind the lyrics and on the record labels, is Stephenson Blake’s Condensed Sans Serif No. 7 which was available in rubdown format from Letraset (as Grotesque No. 7) and Mecanorma.
Buyers initially mistook the title to be “Are You Normal” which led to a major change for the U.S. release in which the sheep photo was enlarged to replace the big type on the cover.
