Massimo Vignelli – La razionalità progettuale dai sistemi d’identità all’editoria
Massimo Vignelli (Milano, 1931 – New York, 2014) is one of the most important figures in the history of design and graphics. He designed graphic systems that have had and still have a real utility for millions of people every day, managing to match the needs of users with the aesthetic. Vignelli taught us to appreciate the practicality and elegance of simple and rational forms, the result of a cultural sensibility.
This publication (“Massimo Vignelli. The rational design from brand to publishing”) intends to focus on the continuity of Vignelli in the different areas of design, the reasoning in designing is evident in any of his projects, from the design of everyday products to identity manuals. It is important to underline this link, in order to investigate what Massimo Vignelli did for design and, in particular, for Italian editorial design.
The choice of this type derives from its particular rational strength and the right presence of black that balances the plentiful white space of the page. New Rail Alphabet also gives the possibility to use it as a display and text font.
