Every year, the Lausanne University of Art and Design (ECAL) invites the public to discover its various programmes (Foundation Year, Bachelor, Master, Master of Advanced Studies) in lectures given by the Heads of Departments and by former students who will discuss their career. On this occasion, the University offers a tour of the building and its infrastructure, including the Foundation Year with various projects presented (Gallery l’elac), as well as an exhibition of projects made by Bachelor and Master students.

In the context of ECAL Open Day 2019, Graphic Design department students Sidonie Bays, Guillaume Besson, Lucas Haussener, Paul Lëon and Jeremy Maffeï created a series of posters exploring letterpress compositions, mixing woodcut headlines and illustrations.

Their approach embraces the headline potential of Monaako – a contemporary script typeface inspired by the Saint-Raphaël logo designed by Charles Loupot (ca. 1950). It is built on a 15-degree rational schematization of calligraphy.
