Pierrot in use for a set of party lights produced by Hellum, a company founded in Coburg, Franconia in 1919 and still in business today.
A very similar product was also manufactured in Tambach-Dietharz, Thuringia, which is less than 80 km to the north, as the crow flies. In the 1970s, these two towns belonged to two different worlds, though: Coburg is in what used to be West Germany, and Tambach-Dietharz in East Germany, then separated by the Iron Curtain. It’s amusing to see that the people in both political systems used the same tacky light strings for their parties. It’s fantastic that they can party together today. Frohes neues Jahr!
