Art directed by Herb Lubalin and drawn by Tony DiSpigna and Joe Sundwall, based on ITC Avant Garde Gothic. The bold face was created especially for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) for their 1974–1975 promotion program [U&lc, 1-3]. The obliques were drawn by Ed Benguiat in 1981 [U&lc 8-2]. Condensed styles were added in May 1992, made by Helga Jörgenson and Sigrid Engelmann at URW via adding slab serifs to the condensed styles of ITC Avant Garde Gothic. [U&lc, 19-2].
