The Mar-Keys (originally named The Royal Spades) were the backing band on many early Stax releases but also recorded singles of their own. In 1962 the rhythm section more or less evolved into Booker T & The MG’s and later the horn section into The Memphis Horns. [Discogs]
Do The Pop-Eye is the second album by the Mar-keys, released by Atlantic Records in 1962. The album cover was designed by New York-based graphic designer Loring Eutemy in his characteristic style: bold colors, bold type — all typography is typeset in Grotesque No. 9 — and illustrations in a cheerful style. Eutemy was responsible for the visual style of Atlantic Records and its sub-label Atco Records in the 1950s/1960s.
