Ernst Dronke (1822–1891) was a journalist from the German city of Koblenz and a close associate of Karl Marx. Berlin is a comprehensive social reportage of 1840s Berlin which also contains critical views towards the state laws and the authorities of the time. As a result, the author even had to serve two years in prison.

Designed by 2xGoldstein, Rheinstetten, this impressive book is set in Compacta E (a customized version of Compacta with slab serifs, created by 2xGoldstein), Primera Bold and JAF Lapture. It is published by Die Andere Bibliothek (“The Other Library”), Berlin.
