Why does so much Arab text design look like it was done on 90s Word?
Hi Doily, I think that’s an unfair characterization. Arabic typography (and generally all scripts other than Latin) are not yet represented very well on Fonts In Use. This has to do with the interests of the involved contributors – the vast majority (incl. the team members) comes from a Latin script background. We are very happy and grateful that type designers and font spotters with a focus on Arabic script are contributing to the Collection, too. So far, the sample for Arabic is very small, which may distort the impression that you’re getting about the quality. Having said that, there are already many outstanding examples of Arabic typography.
I understand there’s a lot of good Arabic typography and design out there. I said ‘so much’, not referring to this site, but generally in life. I’ve lived in many Arab countries and the general tackiness of design is unquestionably greater there.
