Hard to describe how reliably good Penguin’s design looks up to the 1960s in retrospect – they always came up with something that felt both as if no corners had been cut and as if you were not being forced to pay out extra for fripperies.

Strangely, getting more resources didn’t help them – their designs went from unsettling and witty monochrome illustrations like this one to cheesy full-color photographs.

    2. I never thought Joanna would work in this kind of layout and graphic with a hidden Swiss spirit. I am proven wrong, so wrong.
