La Petite Famille by Seslyne Joslin and John Alcorn
A book of four short stories in French for young language learners: “The Little Family”, “The Clown”, “The Banquet”, and “The Pretty Lady”. The back of the book includes an index with English translations for all French words included.
Graphic design and illustration is by John Alcorn, and is typical of his graphic surrealist style. The headline for each story is set in a different display typeface, with styles evocative of 1960s publishing such as Hobo Light (1915), Plymouth Condensed (1901), the bichromatic Ancient Gothic (1891), and Flirt (1886). The cover appears to be set in some version of Binner (1899, with modified M), with the body copy in Century Expanded (1900).
