Hochkirch is a cider brand initiated, designed and brewed by Upper Left Studio and K. Trzópek. The name comes from the German words meaning “High Church” – it is also the name of the small town where one of the co-founders lives.

Hochkirch apple cider was created as a celebration of friendship and moments spent with loved ones. Only local varieties of apples and elderflowers, hand-picked by the Odra River in Wrocław, Poland, were used for its production. The result is a naturally cloudy, vegan dry cider perfect for drinking with friends on warm summer days.

The logo uses GT Alpina with two italicized letters, emphasizing the youthful and subversive nature of the craft cider. The label pairs Neue Haas Unica with Minion. The simple and clean typography was enriched with hand-drawn illustrations and a dynamic photo of an elderflower bush taken at late summer night with a flash.

After bottling in limited and hand-numbered bottles for sparkling wine (most ciders in Poland are sold in beer-like bottles), we ended up with a modest but fresh design for apple cider full of contrasts.
