Das Lalebuch, published by Galiani Berlin, is a modern adaptation of a 16th-century novel, which was long known as “Das Schildbürgerbuch”. From the text on the inner flaps (translated):
Grimmelshausen translator Reinhard Kaisler has now translated the genuine “first comic novel in Germany” into modern German, retaining period correct linguistic puns and madness.
This historical book is set in JAF Lapture throughout. The blackness and the texture of the typeface fits the woodcut illustrations very well.
The book was designed and typeset by Manja Hellpap and Lisa Neuhalfen – both of them among the most experienced and brilliant German typographers.
