For its 11th “Carte blanche”, the Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet has chosen the French-Vietnamese artist Duy Anh Nhan Duc. A plant-based artist and poet of the ephemeral, he has made nature the matrix of his works. An alchemist of nature, he creates plant installations from materials that fascinate him. His favourite? The dandelion. Or more precisely, dandelion egrets, the ones that fly away so easily when you blow on them.
The exhibition curated by Sophie Makariou together with Duy Anh Nhan Duc and Olivia Brunet was shown from 10 November 2021 to 7 February 2022. The catalog was edited by Enzo Dizarn, with texts (in French) by Rob Hopkins, Virginie Maris, and Duy Anh Nhan Duc, and photographs by Isabelle Chapuis, Lara Giliberto, Duy Anh Nhan Duc, and Enzo Orlando. It was published by Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand Palais, Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet in a sewn-bound paperback edition of 1,200 copies.
The typeface is Immortel Infra by Clément Le Tulle-Neyret, 205TF, 2021. More specifically, it’s Immortel Auratus, a custom variant distinguished by a golden ratio between ascenders and x-height, made to fit Duy Anh Nhan Duc’s practice.
