In the 1970s, French imprint Éditions du Chêne published many books debuting the work of photographers who would later become prominent. This book design (“maquette”) is credited to Jacques Maillot. The cover uses typography to mimic one of Bernard Plossu’s photographic sequences, “how do you do?”, in which the subject comes closer to the lens and is cropped out of frame.
