Interventionale Eins
Interventionale Eins, a conference for performative art in public space, will take place in June in Wuppertal, Oberbarmen. The event brings together practitioners of art, politics, social work and urban development, as well as scholars and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Interventionale Eins serves as a platform for artistic research, meetings, and an “academy of the street”.
Hannover-based creative agency wirgestalt took on the challenging task of developing a comprehensive corporate identity that captures the essence of the congress; a visual identity that communicates the interventionist values and goals to the outside world.
A generative logo was developed for the congress that, through its fluid form and changing shape, refers to performative art, with its ephemeral and interventionist nature. From the dynamic logo – set in URW Franklin Gothic – a series of static logo variations can be derived for different use cases. Franklin Gothic Condensed Medium is also used as a secondary typeface throughout the identity – always set in all caps.
For several reasons, we chose Atkinson Hyperlegible as the event’s brand typeface. First, according to its designers, the typeface is “specifically designed to improve readability, especially for people with visual impairments”. This is consistent with the inclusive nature of the conference. Second, an number of the typeface’s letterforms break with conventional shapes, making text stand out: that fits perfectly with creative and performative public art. Overall, Atkinson Hyperlegible offers not only high readability, but also visual uniqueness and creative freedom.
