Vai Vem Editora
Vai Vem publishes proposals from authors who seek to explore and reflect on design themes and practices. The publisher was founded in 2022 by Margarida Antunes and Pedro Mota, both editors and designers of the project based in Porto, Portugal.
In a pocketbook format, with a total of 100 pages, each author is invited to explore and reflect on themes and practices of design. If applicable, to connect it with other disciplinary areas, taking advantage of the most suitable editorial format, whether it be a critical essay, a speculative exercise, or a literary text, just as an example.
Hercules Text was chosen for both cover and interior of the books. It is an elegant and consistent typeface design that is optimized for small sizes and has good legibility in longer texts. The close descendant form of Didot and Modern allows us to maintain consistency throughout different text types and sizes.
The publisher’s launch in 2022 coincided with the release of its first two books: Uma Dança Entre Duas Pedras e Uma Sombra by Marta Ramos (designer and performer) and Each Eye Reflects Its Own Rainbow by Paulo Mariz (designer and visual artist). In May 2023 they were joined by Soraia Gomes Teixeira (designer and researcher) with the book Tocar o Lugar Comum.
