This picture book by celebrated children’s author/illustrator Eric Carle (1929–2021), as the title suggests, is about a little girl named Monica who longs to play with the moon and asks her father to somehow get it. The book acts as a whimsical exploration of the phases of the moon.

All text – the title, the story, the copyright page, etc. – is set in Litera.

  1. As I know Rob Saunders, whose Picture Book Studio published this book, I asked him who did the type selection and arrangement. He said it was himself and Michael Neugebauer (who designed Litera). I have updated the designer credit.

  2. Fantastic! I read this book to my kids all the time, and every time I read it, I question what typeface is being used.  'Is it just a customized ITC Avant Garde?', I often wonder.

Then I came to the site today…and there was the answer right there in this post. Great post.
