Olympic (a.k.a. Slimblack) and Onyx (a.k.a Arsis) are so similar, it sometimes can be difficult to tell them apart. It doesn’t help that Olympic exhibits considerable differences across its sizes. Onyx probably was cut pantographically and hence is a lot more consistent across the sizes.
Shown below is a comparison of the letter E in four sizes, brought to the same display size – from specimens for Initials Olympic (left; 96, 84, 72, 60pt) and Onyx (right; 120, 96, 84, 72pt).
While the widths of the various sizes are all different for Olympic, there is one detail that’s clearly different: in ATF Onyx, there’s always a short horizontal segment before the bracketed serifs start, see the red markers.
