  1. An image from 1972 with a typeface dating back to 1976?

  2. Well observed, Robert, merci!

This book was first published in 1967, but this edition with Eras on the cover is younger. I don’t have an exact date, and dates provided by booksellers are to be taken with a grain of salt. Here’s one who dates this edition by Bordas to 1976. Another German edition by Klett is said to be published in 1975.

I’m not sure if 1972 really is incorrect, though: The design of Eras started much earlier than 1976, see the typeface page. It was conceived at Hollenstein Phototypo as a sans-serif companion to Basilea in 1961, initially as all-caps face only. Note that the cover only shows capitals, from a single weight. A lowercase was added later (but before 1974), at the request of Gerard Blanchard. When ITC picked it up, Eras was expanded to five weights and released in 1976.
