An unauthorized copy of Georg Salden’s
Magnet, made at Brendel Type Studio in 1974 [Ph. Dada]
and expanded to seven numbered weights [c.1989 Brendel Informatik
catalog]. Also known as Pasadena Serial with
additional outlined and shaded styles [Typeshop Serials]. Pasadena
Heavy is roughly equivalent to the original
Magnet, but distinguished by some details: ‘e’ has a
sharp corner, ‘i’ dot is heavier, terminals of ‘f’ and ‘r’ don’t
flare, center of ‘w/W’ is much shorter, terminals are vertical in
‘S’ and ‘9’ and horizontal in ‘?’, ‘k/K’ have a smaller gap betwen
stem and legs, ‘$’ has a single vertical bar, comma curves to the
left.
Various digital versions, e.g. by FontBank, Weatherly Systems,
Font Company, Elsner+Flake, FontSite More…
