Designed in 1901 by Joseph W. Phinney for ATF. Initially spelled Abbot Oldstyle (with single ‘t’) and occasionally also Abbot Old Style (three words). Comes with alternates for ‘rCRW’ and an ‘ing’ logotype with swash ‘g’. [McGrew]
Adopted for phototype by VGC from the T.J. Lyons Collection before 1970, now spelled Abbott Old Style.
A digital version is available from SoftMaker (used for sample, despite the subpar quality), likewise named Abbott Old Style. See also Abbey Road NF.
