Designed by A. Anklam for Genzsch & Heyse in 1876, Neue Schwabacher became one the most popular typefaces of its time, and was sold to many other foundries (or copied without permission). The design also appears under the following names: Hamburger Schwabacher, Schwabacher, Schwabacher modern, Schwabacher Nr. 2, Schiller, Yonkers. The sample uses the freebie digitization Yonkers (Dieter Steffmann, 2001). Gerhard Helzel’s Schwabacher is available in three styles: mager 72p, mager and halbfett 10p. Ralph Unger made another digitization as Neue Schwabacher (RMU, 2021).
