Photo-Lettering’s take on Schmalfette Grotesk (1954) by Swiss designer Walter Haettenschweiler. Design date unknown. Shown in Alphabet Thesaurus Vol. 2 (1965) in three styles; Extra Condensed 5 and 8, Condensed 10, with added lowercase (with round dots); plus two 2 Biform styles as well as Open (caps w/ biform alts) and Interlock (see Swiss Interlock) variants. Characterized in the One Line (1971) catalog as “graphic handlettered interpretation of type style”. PLINC’s caps-only Dandee appears to be another version of Schmalfette Grotesk.
The sample uses Swiss Interlock (without interlocking alternates), the only style available in digital form.
