Created by Marcel Jacno for the visual identity of Jean Vilar’s Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) in c. 1948–1951 and also used for the Festival d’Avignon. Inspired by the stencil letters that are frequently found on the material crates of touring theaters [Corpus typographique français]. Named after the Palais de Chaillot in Paris where the TNP’s company had its base [Mosley]. A version with lowercase characters was produced by Deberny & Peignot for their Typophane transfer sheets and released in 1954.

Digitized by Cyril Cohen, Yves Geleyn & Nicolas Jan in c. 2006 in two versions and used for Histoire du Festival d’Avignon (unreleased). Reintroduced by Félix Müller in 2006 for the new visual identity of the TNP. A commercial digitization was released by Jeremia Adatte as Theatre (2023).
