Andrea Arnold’s 2016 road movie epic American Honey portrays contemporary American youth, poverty and the vast landscapes of the Midwest. With almost three hours of running time, Arnold gives the viewer a “slice of life”, featuring lengthy natural scenes with the mostly street-cast ensemble.
The title and poster (pictured) use a combination of Alternate Gothic and Cooper Black, two of the most distinct mainstays of American visual culture. Draped in the stars and stripes, the title reflects the seemingly eternal struggle of toward and against the illusive “dream”.
