The Feminine Complex were an all-female American garage rock band in the 1960s. The band formed while the girls were attending Maplewood High School in Nashville, Tennessee.
Their only album, Livin’ Love, was released in 1969, when the band had already broken up. The cover typography uses Crayonette, with the caps raised to sit on the baseline (again). Both the ‘T’ and ‘F’ feature simplified forms which were included in phototype adaptations of the 19th-century original.
When Rev-Ola re-released the album in 2004, they apparently couldn’t find a digital version of this typeface and settled for another bold curly reverse-contrast script for the CD spine, Kalligraphia. This gap has now been filled by David Jonathan Ross, who has published a superb digital rendition of Crayonette earlier this month.
