Georges Perec books, Modernista edition
French modernist and Oulipo member Georges Perec wrote some of the best experimental literature of the last century. With a highly conceptual approach to words and writing, he often used constraints and processes to challenge both the reader and himself. For example, his masterpice La disparition is a 300-pages novel written completely without the letter ‘e’.
As you can imagine, Perec is also notoriously difficult to translate. So it brings me great joy to see Swedish publisher Modernista re-issue his complete, translated works this year, in a series with fantastic covers by co-founder Lars Sundh. Imaginative still life arrangements meet illustrations that channel both collage and readymade, while Minion puts the books squarely into canon with lively swashes and ligatures.
