And what about the sans serif used in both pictures ?
“The following are specimens of a portion …”
I wonder if this might be Miller Richards Grotesque No. 1?
I found this book cover that features the same typeface. I considered uploading it to Fonts In Use, but cannot find any images at a satisfactory resolution, nor high-resolution scans of Ornamented No. 1526 with which a digital restoration could be done. So I figured I might as well post it here.
The bark covered house, or Back in the woods again; being a graphic and thrilling description of real pioneer life in the wilderness of Michigan by William Nowlin, Esq. Detroit: Printed for the author, 1876. Source: Library of Congress.
Thanks, Martin!
FWIW, we recommend images for contributions to be 1400px wide or more. So this one would be big enough, at ca. 1700px width. But sure, posting it here in the comments is fine and welcome, too! I have added the title of the book and the source of the image.
