In April, Nestlé revealed their new product KitKat Ruby which is coming to Europe after a successful debut in Japan and Korea earlier in 2018.

The new four-finger wafer bar is coated with Ruby chocolate, derived from Ruby cocoa beans. Nestlé promises “an intense berry-fruitiness taste without the addition of any flavour or colour”. According to The Drum, “the product has been developed to target millennial ‘foodies’ who are eager to discover new tastes” and are drawn to catchy and intriguing visuals. A little sneak peek in the making of KitKat with this unique fourth type of chocolate can be seen in this video clip.

The design agency behind the equally delicious pink packaging is Anthem Worldwide and the font they’ve chosen is PhotoWall Medium by Sofia-based studio DearType, which specializes in scripts.

    1. Could we include Gill Sans, for the KitKat logo, or is that too much of a stretch?

    2. Good point: the letterforms of the logo indeed seem to follow the basic shapes of Gill Sans, albeit modified. This post focuses on the KitKat Ruby packaging, though, so let’s leave it at that.
