Sula is the second novel by Toni Morrison, first published in 1973 by Alfred A. Knopf, New York. The cover art was provided by Wendell Minor (b. 1944), with art direction by R.D. Scudellari. The title is presented in caps from Cooper Hilite, with the notches filled in red and yellow, as if the letterforms were lit by the painted sun below. The subline is set in the original regular style from the Cooper series.

The first UK edition was published by Allen Lane, London in 1974, using the same jacket design with some adjustments: The author line does without “A novel by”, and the illustrator’s signature was dropped.
