Just What I Needed” was The Cars’s debut single. It was actually on their 1977 demo tape and had been played on the radio in the band’s hometown Boston, before they were ever signed. On May 29, 1978, the song was released worldwide by Elektra Records to promote the band’s self-titled album and went on to be the band’s first hit. ITC American Typewriter is used exclusively in uppercase, for the band name and the song title.
