The Skull of the Marquis de Sade is a collection of short stories by Robert Bloch (1917–1994), who is best known as the writer of Psycho (1959), the novel that provided the basis for the film by Alfred Hitchcock. First published in October 1965 by Pyramid Books in the US, Robert Hale’s first UK edition followed in 1975. This is the cover from Corgi’s paperback edition from 1976. [ISFDB, Goodreads]

The origin and designer of the title typeface is unclear. Probably made in the mid-1970s, this set of shivery caps was called Frankenstein by VGC. Castcraft had it as Frankenstein’s Bride. It also went as Dracula. There are numerous digitizations of mixed quality, under various names, including Karloff, Corpus, Stolzenfels, Drooping, Frieze, or Aaaaaaaargh Caps. See the typeface page for more details.
