Cave à manger et à boire

Le Cavin is a new brasserie located in French Pyrenees in Bagnères-de-Bigorre (65). To give a graphic identity to this place, I drew my inspiration from the local environment and regular visitors. To better underline the mountain environment of this place, the typeface rises slightly and dashes as if it was calling out to passers-by.

For this project made for the Agamea agency, I had the pleasure to collaborate again with Nono Ampuy. She aimed at showing the warmth and spontaneity of the place through simple brush drawings, with a style close to press cartoons. The human aspect of this place is displayed through a panel of authentic characters that you are likely to bump into if you go through there…
Illustrations give rhythm to the various printed formats of the Cavin.

To convey this spontaneous and warm picture, I chose to work with Jean-Luc, a typeface by Atelier Carvalho-Bernau, inspired Jean-Luc Godard’s movie lettering. It is also in line with linear and thick typefaces used in restaurants. Effective by its simplicity and imperfections, I used it to create various support containing illustrations.

For the rest of the text used in the different menus, I used Marion from Canadian typedesigner Ray Larabie. It is easily readable, elegant and traditional. To complete the general graphic atmosphere and give birth to characters, the illustrator worked with hand lettering in line with her drawings.
