Predator is a 1987 American science fiction action-horror film directed by John McTiernan and written by brothers Jim and John Thomas. It is the first installment in the Predator franchise. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in guerrilla-held territory in Central America, who encounter the deadly Predator (Kevin Peter Hall), a technologically-advanced alien who stalks and hunts them down.
Shown is a 1987 poster, used to promote the theatrical release of the film. The Predator logo appears to be based on ITC Machine Bold, with some customizations: W and N got heavier diagonals, and the chamfered corners in Z and at the bottom right of G were straightened. Also compare to Octagothic. Furthermore, the designer added a drop shadow as well as upward pointing white points at the bottom of the letterforms.
The “Soon the Hunt Will Begin” slogan is set in Futura Bold, while the blurb (“Nothing like it has ever been on Earth before”) appears to be in a bold italic style from Helvetica Condensed or similar. Univers Ultra Condensed 49 Light is used for the credits.
