Amaro Freitas – Sangue Negro album art
Sangue Negro (“Black Blood”) – the debut album by Pernambuco pianist Amaro Freitas – translates to Brazilian northeastern cultures such as frevo, baião, maracatu, cirande, and maxixe for jazz. On this recording, the musician is accompanied by Jean Elton’s double bass and Hugo Medeiros’ drums. Since the release of the album, the trio has entered international circuits and established itself as one of the greatest references of contemporary jazz.
This re-release by Ponto4 Digital as a vinyl record (the album was first published on compact disc in 2016) offered the opportunity for a redesign.
The cover design plays with the outline typography on the front and the face of the musician in the background (the new face of the Brazilian jazz): first, the name of the artist and the album are read. Some characters of Maxeville, such as the M, subtly resemble the keys of the piano. In a second moment, the artist’s face is perceived more clearly.
