The Pelican Press was founded in 1916 by Sir Francis Meynell (1891–1975), with the active involvement of Stanley Morison – both of whom where key players in the world of British publishing. This post shows two program covers printed in 1923, featuring Nicolas Cochin and flower borders, which were reproduced in a self-promotional leaflet from 1924.
Glasgow Orpheus Choir Concerts, 1923. The Glasgow Orpheus Choir is still highly regarded – at this date, under conductor Hugh S. Roberton, it was considered to be one of the best choirs in the UK. Roberton’s name is set in Cochin (sans Nicolas).
