The “Journées particulières” (“special days”) are an initiative founded by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton in order to shed light on the professions, skills and crafts of the Group’s various Houses. For a few days, different partners of the group open their workshops’ doors in order to explain and make accessible their know-how: through the visit of the workplace, demonstrations of techniques, lectures and other guided tours, the visitors dive into the excellence of the European crafts legacy.

To accompany the happening of this event at Tanneries Roux, Atelier Tout va bien designed an editorial object, which is an invitation, a map, and a photo report of the tanneries at the same time. The progressive manipulation and unfolding of this object is what makes it interesting and also sensible: at first, we find ourselves in front of a dark green thick envelope, screen-printed in silver, which adds a sense of quality and craft to the object. Then, what is slipped inside reveals itself as a leaflet with a map on its cover, bringing the visitor immediately into the location itself. Another unfolding shows a few images of leather being prepared, and finally, the leaflet opens up into a poster, with more information on the different places of the workshops and what happens there. This accent put on the manipulation of information is a way to express the manual work at the center of these crafts.

The typographic treatment relies on the use of Stratos from Production Type, except for the cover of the envelope: the identity of the Tanneries set in HTF Didot makes a direct historical reference to the years of creation of the workshop. Stratos brings a contemporary look on this heritage, and the graphic treatment of the map as much as the pictures makes us already imagine what will be made of this leather. The passage from craft to design is felt here through the design of information, but also through type itself, evoking the geometric sans from the beginning of the 20th century, exactly the moment where design was emerging from crafts and fine arts.
