Setting Latin type vertically rarely is a good idea, in terms of readability. Using a typeface with greatly varying letter widths doesn’t help with that, and often looks messy. This example in Mannheim, Germany featuring Jakob Erbar’s extrabold Koloss (1923) is not without charm, though: it acquires an almost expressionist look. Spotted by Isoletters in 2018.
