Tycho posters, Collection 4: Epoch (2016–2018)
Poster for Tycho’s 2017 anthology shows, where he played songs from each album. The poster features Trade Gothic Bold Extended (TYCHO), ITC Avant Garde Gothic Extra Light (ANTHOLOGY), and an unidentified typeface that looks like a condensed version of Clonoid.
Tycho is an American musician and record producer from San Francisco, known for his blend of downtempo guitar, analogue synthesis, and ambient elements, encompassing a myriad of music genres including chillwave, ambient, IDM, and post-rock.
The man behind Tycho, Scott Hansen, is also a graphic designer known professionally as ISO50. You might know him from his ISO50 blog. He is responsible for most of Tycho’s artwork, including many posters.

With a focus on color theory and simplicity of form this period saw a turn toward more vibrance and contrast while distilling compositions to their most basic elements.
The Tycho logotype is generally set in Trade Gothic Bold Extended (1959) by Jackson Burke (1908–1975). Most of the titles and headings are set in Clonoid Semibold (2013) by Ryoichi Tsunekawa (1978–). The body texts are set in Neue Helvetica Medium (1983) by Linotype Design Studio, which is based on Helvetica (1957) by Max Miedinger (1910–1980) with art direction from Eduard Hoffmann (1892–1980). The Phantogram posters are stylistic outliers both in their more complex imagery as well as the use of ITC Avant Garde Gothic Extra Light (1970) by Herb Lubalin (1918–1981) and Tom Carnase (1939–) for the display texts.
