Gibson Works, Sheffield

Gibson Works is a Grade Ⅱ listed building in Sheffield, UK. It was built in the 1880s as a cutlery manufactury. It has gone through a variety of industrial uses, the most recent of which was a pewter works (according to its list entry with Historic England). Like many industrial buildings in Sheffield’s post-industrial period it has been converted to chintzy flats.
I don’t know if the metal gate sign is original or was added as part of being converted to residential use, but it was the unusual choice of ITC Benguiat Bold (1978) that caught my eye. The fact that the W has been welded on backwards is an amusing touch.
