The Vilcek Foundation raises awareness of immigrant contributions in the United States and fosters appreciation of the arts and sciences. The Vilcek Foundation Prizes are awarded to foreign-born individuals for extraordinary achievement in the arts and sciences.

The first winners were artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude as well as cancer researcher Joan Massagué in 2006. The trophy represents a visualization of the pinnacle an individual or group can reach, each trophy is individually designed and 3D printed for the winner, using Cholla Sans and Cholla Wide, two members of the Cholla typeface family. Watch a video about the making of a Vilcek Prize.

Design by Matthias Ernstberger, with creative direction by Stefan Sagmeister. 3D consulting by Nick Herman; 3D design by Aly Khalifa of Gamil Design.
