DUE was a student publication initiated by Sofia Pia Belenky, Tobias Hentzer Dausgaard and Hunter O’Brien Doyle at the Architectural Association, published between 2016 and 2019.
The weekly issues aimed at exploring the impacts of urgent contemporary topics upon architecture. In an atmosphere permeating both work and academia, where boundaries between professions continue to diminish, DUE encouraged conversations and celebrations to cross these borders entirely.
In this spirit,Metaballs (then its early development) was used as a porous, brick-like or organic graphic material, often edging the limits of legibility.
The publication’s logo is an abstract and dynamic interpretation of the title, neither illustration, a symbol or a coherent set of letters.
Issues 50–53 feature contributions from Christian Kerez, Elmgreen & Dragset, Esben Weile Kjær, Ludo Groen. Printed on a Risograph by Hato Press in one colour.

Coincidentally, I came across the mother of Metaballs today. It’s shown in Photo-Lettering’s 1977 Yearbook under the name Beck Johanna.
