Scavengers Reign is a 2023 limited series from Max Originals created by Charles Huettner and Joseph Bennett based off their short film Scavengers, which aired on Adult Swim in 2016. It’s an absolutely gorgeous bit of sci-fi animation, featuring magnificent alien landscapes crawling with bizarre creatures.

The title treatment is set in DIN Next Rounded from Linotype. The title has been traced and chopped up to reveal in pieces, possibly a nod to the title card from Alien (1979).

Supporting type and credits are set in Space Mono from Colophon.

The typography throughout is slightly distorted, blurred with a simple choker applied to give it a more organic shape.

  1. The title card seems to use something different from DIN Next Rounded, with wider proportions. See also the larger aperture of C.

The title as seen in the trailer and on the posters looks like it’s indeed based on DIN Next Rounded, but with a higher bar in A.

  2. The letters animate on/off using a trim paths effect (After Effects), which is applied to strokes, so I suspect the title has been traced with the pen tool, which in turn would have allowed for variations to letterforms to be made easily.
