Sans Serif Bold with Caslon Old Face and Cheltenham

Imago is a Canadian poetry magazine featuring contributions from poets Daphne Marlatt and Anselm Hollo, among others. It was published from 1964 to 1974.

The layout of each issue displays creative freedom, with the logo, illustration style, and paper color changing throughout the collection. Is this the work of an audacious designer or a simple amateur? Although the creator remains unknown, it’s clear they embraced unconventional choices. The logo, set in Sans Serif Bold or Copperplate Gothic—sometimes in lowercase, sometimes in all caps, with variations in width—appears differently throughout the issues, building an experimental and playful collection.
