The contrasted sans serif characters, which are not set in Vinter, are Latin characters in the latest version of MN typefaces.
The grotesque characters are set in Hei Regular, a Chinese typeface shipped with Mac OS.
Wonderful – thank you, Akira!
In fact, Frode and me had assumed it’s “MN Latin”, but we were led off track by the fact that our sample shows the old version. I looked a little deeper into this, and it seems that the lowercase was revised sometime before 2017, replacing the ball terminals in a c f r y and introducing a blunt top in t. The spacing is looser, too.
The comparison below shows Bangla MN v8.0 (2012, macOS 10.9 Maverick) at the top and Bangla MN v14.0 (2018, macOS 11.3 Big Sur) at the bottom. It looks like all fonts that include this Latin design were updated (not just Bangla MN).
Hei Regular now has a page, too. Its Latin part appears to be derived from Gert Wunderlich’s Maxima. Thanks again for your help.
My pleasure, Florian!
Only the Latin characters in Khmer MN have not been replaced.
