For this special throwback issue of Newsweek, Design Director Dirk Barnett and Art Director Lindsay Ballant researched the magazine’s history and turned the issue into a design that feels 1965. The cover looks a bit too polished and crowded to be authentically vintage (see an actual cover from that year), but News Gothic — a staple of the 1960s in the US — was a good choice. As was Calendonia for the interior text. Both typefaces were used by the magazine at that time.

They also brought back Newsweek’s logo from that era. Even advertisers got in on the act. Watch an interview with then-editor Tina Brown.
