In the 1950s, the Austrian Communist Party (KPÖ) campaigned against comics and movies which allegedly were corrupting the youth. “Weg mit dem Schmutz und Schund!” (“Away with dirt and rubbish!”) was used as a slogan throughout this campaign.

This poster printed by the KPÖ in 1952 is part of the current exhibition I Am Me in the Wien Museum, showing the work of writer Mira Lobe and illustrator Susi Weigel, who both worked for publishing houses owned and financed by the KPÖ.

Berthold Block is still in use in the corporate design of the KPÖ — as headline font on posters.
