Antagónica is a biannual publication that intends to reflect on the information that is given to us and establish a tool that allows us to know all points of view so we can get a proper conclusion. Its main feature is that it is a reversible book and it can be read in both directions. The first volume is about the Nobel Peace Prize of the new Millennium.

    1. The Kofi Annan headline begs for a ‘fi’ ligature.

    2. There seems to be something severely wrong with the spacing in general, see also “Índice premiados” and “No te dejes …”. I don’t see this unbalanced spacing in the retail versions of Caslon Graphique, so I have to guess: InDesign’s optical kerning (plus tracking)? Or a homemade version?

I totally agree with the “fi” ligature. Regarding bad spacing, I think it’s a problem of font itself. You can check the Elsner+Flake version, it suffers the same problems.

    4. Thanks, César. For some reason, I didn’t look at Caslon Graphique EF. You are right, the spacing issues are part of the font.

This is a good reminder that it pays to check the available options. Not all versions are equal, and price often is not a reliable indicator for quality. See this comparison. The versions by Linotype and URW++ not only have a more balanced spacing (Ín, di, ej), they also come with ligatures and have a greater language support. Scangraphic’s spacing seems okay, but the accents are tacked on.
