Assuming that bitmap fonts were no longer relevant for today’s high-density screens, Mark Simonson retired his Raster Gothic fonts in 2010. Later that year the fonts suddenly became particularly useful when Pebble needed clear, compact bitmaps for the e-paper display on their first smartwatch.

Raster Gothic continues to be part of the operating system in the new Pebble Time watch. Simonson went back to his old fonts to add broader language support for the product.
